Disaster Recovery

Nearly half of companies who fail to provide effective disaster recovery processes for their data center do not reopen after experiencing major data loss.

SecureAgent solutions combine to provide customers five critical elements necessary for any successful disaster recovery plan.

  • Multi-location encrypted virtual tape emulation and replication
  • Secure off-site movement of data
  • Remote tape process and VTL management
  • Remote hardware and system console access
  • Integrated automation

Realistically, all five of these elements are absolute requirements if a disaster recovery plan is to be of any practical value. Without these five elements, a DR plan is fraught with peril, and may not work at all.  Only the SecureAgent VTL covers all of your DR needs.

The SecureAgent VTL provides these components by integrating elements of SecureAgent’s well-established, secure console access, and our console automation package. These newly customized offerings are the IDG 9074® DR for encrypted console access, and SuperVision™ DR for integrated automation.

With this new integration, customers will now have everything needed in a single integrated offering to provide better control of your DR process. The entire recovery process can now be performed without ever sending anyone to the DR site.

The process now would be something like this:

On a normal and on-going basis, you create virtual tape images at your production site. Since these images are compressed and encrypted, the VTL automatically moves the critical images you’ve selected to any number of remote DR sites, so they’re already where they need to be in the event of a disaster.

When an event occurs, you connect into the catalog for the SecureAgent VTL at the remote site. Using the Secure Tape Admin tool, you perform a VOLSER query, then find and mount your latest tape library backup and your System Pack tapes.

You then use the remote Hardware Management Console (HMC) tool to connect to the DR site’s HMC, point to the appropriate loaded drives, recover your tape library, and IPL the system.

You then use SuperVision to connect to the NIP console and enter the necessary responses to the IPL messages. You can even use the integrated REXX interpreter to automate the entire process.

The integration of these components offers customers unprecedented control of your host systems, tape infrastructure, and the entire recovery process. The SecureAgent VTL enhances your ability to manage the end-to-end flow of information, including mainframe message traffic, tape mount response, automation, consolidated alerting, and secure encrypted remote recovery.

Implementing the SecureAgent VTL will immediately introduce significant advantages in your production backup and disaster recovery procedures.

The SecureAgent VTL will enhance your automation practices and reduce reliance on human operator and tape handler intervention.

The introduction of high-level, role-based access-controlled security and encryption protects highly sensitive customer information and provides the highest standard of security, encryption, and key management.

The introduction of multiple automated alerting strategies ranging from SNMP traps, e-mail, SMS and even integrated WTO alerts to the master console—allow operators to maintain their current procedures in supporting tape backup operations or, in some cases, establish new expedited methods in responding to systems generated alerts.
