The IDG 9481 Storage Module is primarily responsible for collecting a tape image from the tape emulator. The remote data storage component periodically requests tape-movement criteria from the Secure Data Solution Catalog, prioritizing "recall" requests for tapes to be recovered from the remote data storage to the tape emulator. Like each emulated tape device and each tape, the Storage Module may be assigned to one or more security groups controlling which tapes it is able to transfer from the tape emulator. If a candidate tape doesn't have a matching security group, then it is not considered for transfer. After the tape has been copied or moved, the Secure Data Solution Catalog is updated to reflect the tape's location and the time it was copied. Additionally, if the operation was not a recall and was a move rather than a copy, the virtual tape is then deleted from the tape emulator. Return to the technology section
